With the winter weather starting to recede we drove west to Whinlatter and, parking at the Forestry Commission visitor centre, walked up the well-defined path to Whinlatter Top and on to Brown How. This was a relatively short walk in a bitterly cold wind with quite a bit of snow visible on the higher surrounding mountains of Skiddaw, Blencathra and Helvellyn (note there was another fatality here earlier in the week). The path was quite boggy in places so the fact that it was frozen made walking easier than if we had done it in warmer weather. The actual Wainwright top is Brown How even though it is slightly lower than Whinlatter Top….
